Jenna visits the Queen City!

This weekend, I did not have to travel for work due to it being the Fourth of July weekend.  Up until about Tuesday, I was going to just have a low-key weekend but then Jenna decided to come visit and I COULDN’T BE HAPPIER SHE DID 🙂 🙂

She arrived Friday night really late cause she drove straight from work and we didn’t do much that night but have some brownie sundaes and go to bed.

Saturday morning, we woke up and went to Amelie’s French bakery for breakfast and it was so cute and fun (S/O to my squad). I had a delicious blueberry and cream cheese muffin and a salted caramel brownie café mocha coffee, which made me want to die cause it was so good. Afterwards, and basically the whole reason Jenna came this weekend, we went to David’s Bridal to pick out and try on our bridesmaids dresses for Dani’s wedding #teamtino.

After, we went to some cute and fun shops that I have been dying to go to, but are more fun to shop in with friends.  So we went to Swoozies (literally heaven on earth).  So its kind of embarrassing but Jenna and I were literally so obsessed with this store that we were psychopaths in there.  If I can give you any indication of how much of a psychopath, I took photos. We also went to some cute boutique shops with the most adorable clothes, and went to Park Road books, which is funny cause Jenna has called them multiple times to book appearances for her authors for work.

After we went shopping, we went into Uptown to explore.  Drew had to go to work for a few hours Saturday afternoon, so we wandered around the city and I showed Jenna things like the Epicentre and Romare Bearden Park and things like that until Drew was done working. When he was done, he gave Jenna a little tour of the ballpark.

For dinner we went to Cantina 1511 and it was DELICIOUS.  We ate entirely too much guacamole but it was so so so good. That night, we went out to Whiskey Warehouse to have some drinks.

Sunday morning we went to Duck Donuts to get some freshly made donuts (once again delicious).  Afterwards, we drove around and looked at beautiful homes and then took a walk through Freedom Park.  We spent our afternoon lounging by the pool and then decided to make corn on the cob and burgers for our little Fourth of July dinner.

After dinner, Drew had to go to work for a few minutes so Jenna and I went along to hang out in the park across the street and then we all went to get ice cream at the Elizabeth Creamery! I had a cone of black raspberry and it was so good, and whenever I eat it, it makes me think of my Nana ❤ Finally, we came home for the night and just hung out together and watched a movie.

Unfortunately Jenna had to leave Monday morning and wasn’t able to stay around for the baseball game and fireworks afterwards.  They were legitimately the best fireworks I have ever seen in my life, and I had such a great view of them.  The Knights have fireworks every Friday night and I never get to see them because I’m always traveling, so it made me so happy to actually get to see some fireworks for once!

It was such a wonderful weekend spent with Jenna.  So much so, that I constantly kept asking her when she was going to come move to Charlotte.  I’m so happy that she decided to make the trip to visit and that I have such a wonderful friend ❤

February Recap!

I haven’t blogged in a while so I will just go ahead and recap most of February.  Beginning with the Super Bowl! Being in Charlotte, the Super Bowl was a crazy big deal here! I obviously wanted to see the Panthers win because everyone here was so excited and it would be really cool to experience Super Bowl related things in the city, like the big parade! Although I was okay with seeing either outcome to the game, the people I was watching with were not.  As the game went on the bar we were at got quieter and quieter.  Even though the Panthers lost, it was still cool to be with tons of crazy fans who have been die-hard Panthers fans since birth and watch their reactions to the game.

Then there was Valentine’s Day. The Friday before, I woke up to a phone call from a Charlotte number and it was a lady saying she had a delivery for me and needed to know which apartment I was in because it didn’t say on the delivery.  So I tried to figure out where she was in the apartment complex but after some confusion, I told her I would just come downstairs and meet her. So I threw on sneakers and grabbed my keys and went outside (in just a t-shirt and sweatpants).  I didn’t see the lady outside, so I called her back and she told me she could see the pool from where she was, and I told her I was right by the pool standing, and so she drove around and called me back and said she didn’t see me. Then I was beginning to question if she actually was in the right apartment complex….SHE WASNT.  She was at a complex down the street. So by now I’m standing at basically the entrance of my apartment from the street waiting for her to pull in.  Meanwhile a nice lady was driving out of the complex and stopped and asked me if everything was okay and said she was concerned because “I was not dressed” and just standing in the parking lot. I seriously died laughing and tried to explain what was going on.  So eventually the delivery lady showed up with beautiful flowers from my Dad! I of course had to call my dad and thank him for the flowers and tell him the whole story and told him about how cold I was waiting for them to come, and he asked how cold it was, and I told him about 40 degrees, and he goes, “Rebekah, when I woke up this morning it was 2 DEGREES”.  SOOOO GLADD I’m not in Pennsylvania dealing with that coldness!

On Valentine’s Day, I had to work most of the afternoon so Drew and I decided we would cook a nice dinner at home together instead of trying to beat all the crowds going out to dinner.  We made a caesar salad, garlic bread, homemade lasagna, and dirt pudding for dinner! Everything was really delicious and it continued to feed us for the rest of the week!

If you read my last blog post, you know that I made a bucket list and one of the items on my list was going to Discovery Place. Every third Friday of the month, Discovery Place does an event called “Science on the Rocks”.  They have the museum open after hours for people 21+ and they have bars set up throughout the museum so you can drink and explore the cool things they have.  As a part of my Valentine’s gift, Drew got us tickets to go this past Friday. Each month they have a different theme and being that it was right after Valentine’s Day, this month’s theme was “Fire & Ice”.  So when we entered if you were “taken” you wore blue beads and if you were “single” you wore red beads.  One of the attractions was them making ice cream with liquid nitrogen and then we all got to try it.  The kicker was that this ice cream was made with cinnamon and cayenne pepper, giving into that whole Fire & Ice thing, it was such a weird sensation.  Another thing was that we got to set our hands on fire and try all these really spicy sauces, including what is supposedly the spiciest pepper on the planet.  There were a TON of people there! I was actually really shocked cause I thought I was the only nerdy person who wanted to spend my Friday night at this science museum. We had a really great time and then afterwards walked through the city and grabbed some dinner.

This weekend I will be heading to Nashville to visit Jenna! I’m so excited to see her and see the awesome city she’s been living in!!

Tomorrow is my last day at David’s Bridal!

Tuesday is my first day at my new job!

SO MANY AWESOME THINGS HAPPENING!!

Bucket List

I thought it might be really fun to come up with a bucket list of ideas of things to do while here in Charlotte.  Here’s some of the things I’ve come up with!

  • U.S. National Whitewater Center– Seriously, this looks so fun! I’ve never whitewater rafted and I’ve heard really good things about this place! I’ll definitely look into this during the warm summer months.IMG_5483
  • Discovery Place– a fun and educational museum that’s hands-on. It reminds me of the Whitaker Center (which I love).  Would be a perfect activity for a rainy day!0737-Discovery-Place-068c.jpg
  • Time Warner Cable Arena– although I’m not much of a basketball fan, when in Charlotte, see a Hornets game!uqk6dUH6
  • Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden– I found out about this garden center when I was researching jobs (they do weddings!) and it looks so beautiful so I really want to go here! Maybe when friends come visit (cute ‘n fun pics)zzdata-1055_560x378.jpg
  • Bojangles Coliseum– this is the arena where the minor league hockey team, The Checkers plays.  Its really close to Drew’s old house and I’m sure I wouldn’t have to twist his arm to come with me coliseumopening_002.jpeg
  • Visit Lake Norman- they offer all sorts of things like kayaking, paddle boarding, and jet skis for rental1-2-acb6b2.jpg

Some other fun things:

  • Painting with a Twist
  • Wine Tours
  • Trampoline Park
  • see a concert!

I’m sure I’ll keep adding to this list as I explore the city more, but this is a great start for now!  If you know of any cool things to do in Charlotte that I’ve missed, let me know! I want to experience all that I can!

Charlotte is INSANE

Hey everyone! So its been 2 weeks since moving down here and so far I love it and things seem to really be working out!

I moved down January 8th and my parents stayed that weekend and helped me get all settled in.  We had to buy a few things like a dresser and a kitchen table and just random things for the apartment.  I am so thankful that they were able to make the drive with me and see where I’ll be living.  I know it wasn’t easy for them to leave me here, and it definitely was not easy for me to be left here at first, but home will always be home.

oh and by the way…I got a job!!! So back before Thanksgiving I had applied for this position and then had a phone interview at the beginning of December.  At the time it didn’t work out and I wasn’t going to go any further in the process.  So the day before I moved down here I got a call from the company asking if I was still interested and if I would be able to Skype interview the following week.  I told them I was actually moving the next day and would love to do an interview in person.  So we scheduled my interview for Monday morning.  I moved down that weekend and Monday morning I got up and went to my interview.  I thought it went really good but I didn’t want to get my hopes up.  That afternoon they called me and offered me the job!! I am so excited! It’s a really awesome job with great opportunities! So here it is…

Insane-Inflatable-5K-Logo

I will be the Registration Coordinator for the Insane Inflatable 5k.  The Insane Inflatable 5k is an awesome race for all age groups done on inflatable obstacles! Part of my job is being on site for these events and that means I get to travel all over the country.  Basically every weekend, I will get to fly to a different state to go to these different races.  Currently most races are in California, Texas, and Arizona (because they’re the only warm states), but they’re coming all across the country later in the year. I don’t start until March 1st but I am so INSANELY excited to finally be in my career field of event management and have this awesome opportunity to fly all over the country and visit new places. Its so surreal that on my first “real day” in Charlotte I was offered such an awesome job I had been waiting for!

Since I don’t start until March, I am continuing to work at David’s Bridal for now because that had been my plan and they were counting on me as an employee.  Its definitely been a transition, just because they don’t do everything the same in this store as my last and  I most definitely miss my Harrisburg crew!!! But as of now, I’m going to continue to work there through February to make a little extra money and to keep myself busy for the next month.

And last but not least, Drew is awesome!! Love that kid to death! He’s been busy with work during the week and has been picking up a few extra gigs with the local hockey team on the weekends.  We’ve been having a lot of fun just being able to hang out with each other, which is something we weren’t really able to do for the past 1 1/2 years, so we’re really enjoying living together. We’ll see when he gets sick of me 😉
